I love to cook. Music is my passion and I enjoy singing, playing the piano and guitar. I am a runner and I completed my first marathon in 2010. I work in higher education generating partnership opportunities and helping students to find educational opportunities. I am happily married to my incredible and loving husband Dave.
My name is Beatriz and I have many nicknames: Bea, Betylu, Betty, Betina, Grinch, Grunch, and Tris. I was born and raised in Mexico where my parents and younger sisters live. I moved to the US in 2007 to earn a masters degree in Public Administration at NYU. I have lived in the US since then.
On November 22, 2011 at the age of 32 I was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgking’s Lymphoma. I was declared on remission by July 2012. However, on October 2012 the cancer came back and this time I was diagnosed with a rare type of Lymphoma called “Grey Zone Lymphoma”. In April 2014 I was about to reach one year of remission when I was diagnosed again with Lymphoma. I underwent a Bone Marrow transplant in September of 2014. I am forever grateful to my sister Caro who served as my donor to save my life.
I started my blog as a way to cope with though times, communicate with others, and as a reminder to stay strong, positive, and always hopeful. The name Be-a-grateful is a combination of my name and the phrase”Be Grateful”.
My posts are a combination of updates, my favorite cooking recipes, and things I find that make us smile.
I am grateful you are here and thank you for reading! – Bea
